Simon: A.K.A “Super Firefighter”
We went to a Superhero Party at the library where I work the other day. When planning his outfit in the morning, Simon said he wanted to be “Super Firefighter”, so we combined his superhero mask and cape from the dress-up bin with some rain boots, a firefighter hat, and a homemade fire hose.
My little guy has been obsessed with anything to do with fire lately. From firefighters and fire trucks, all the way to volcanoes. A pile of books on these subjects have come home from the library, and craft projects have included a duct tape and cardboard tube hose, and yellow and orange tissue paper fire. As a parent, I really love watching my child go through these phases of interest, and become passionately curious about new things. I take great joy in encouraging him to pursue these interests, by gently guiding him just a little bit further, such as reading books together on the topic, watching a documentary together about it, or just getting down on his level and playing along with his imagination. (I have been a firefighter more times than I can count lately.)
