Painting Progress

art van painting progress-2
Here is an updated progress shot of my painting for the Art Van fundraiser, which I first wrote about here. As you can see, it has come a long way, but it still has a long distance to go before I feel I can hand it over. I want to feel good knowing it will hang beside the other two pieces of a triptych, which are being done by two other local artists. Actually, seeing this photograph, and looking back at the previous one is comforting to me right now, because it proves I have actually gotten somewhere with it, when it feels like it might never be done. Painting often feels that way to me.

So tonight has been a night of art making, peppermint tea, reading my newest library book, and listening to good music on my headphones. A pretty nice way to spend a Saturday night , if you ask me.

  1. The top third of your painting reminds me of Edward Hopper’s style. Might be a good place to look for some inspiration. I love how clean and crisp that top third is looking. I wonder if you can apply that to the snow somehow? Also, the tree trunk is looking awesome. It’s definitely come a long way! What a fun project!

    • Thanks so much for your comment! I don’t get a lot of interesting crit since leaving art school and that is always refreshing. I hope to finish this beast soon! 🙂

      • Ditto. I was also an art student, so I hear you about feedback. I recently started taking some classes again because I really craved that critique. Always hesitant to start posting unsolicited feedback, but glad I did 😉 I’m horrible at painting…not patient enough.

      • I am so impatient too! That is why I am so frustrated right now with this piece, lol. I can see in my head where i want it to go but I get frustrated in the process.
