With the arrival of the Christmas tree, the living room got a rearrangement that I feel will serve us well through the cold months of winter. In addition, clutter was removed, the play corner was disassembled, and all toys were sent back to reside in Simon’s room again.
I still wanted Simon to have a bit of the living room that felt more kid-friendly however, and so tonight I set up this reading nook under the window for him. His toddler-sized armchair, which he calls his “thinking chair”, is now joined by a basket of books that share a common theme. Right now they are all books about winter, snow, and Christmas. Some moved there from our own collection, and many came home from the library. (As time changes, I plan to rotate the theme by season or a particular interest we are pursuing.) Finally, for a bit of fun, I put some holiday boxes that Simon calls “presents” and likes to stack and play with.
Looking now at this little corner of our home, I am thinking that he might need a soft little throw pillow, a cozy kid-sized lap blanket, or both. Some new sewing projects for after the holiday hubbub?
