The First Sunrise

This is the view through my kitchen window this morning. I am up before the sun. I am attempting to kick off a new routine, having Jeramy wake me when he gets up for work. To have a little time to myself before jumping into motherhood for the day. A chance to shake off the sleepies, listen to the hushed sounds of morning, to watch the sky change colors as it, too, wakes for the day.

I am hoping that this will make me a better Mumma. I think that caring for yourself is one of the most important things you can do as a parent. In this way you not only present your best self, and have more energy, but you also role model for your child what it means to be a more fulfilled person. Having things of your very own, routines and hobbies, contribute to overall emotional and mental health, which, in turn, makes you a stronger caregiver.

Simon is not the early riser that some children are. He inherited both Mumma’s and Daddy’s shared love of sleeping in. For now though, I think I really need this early time.

  3. I am slow to wake up, and really do better with some “me time” before the girls get up. Good luck!! And the comment about taking a nap so you can be more there for your hubby is a good point too 😀

  4. i really wish i could motivate myself to get up earlier on days Joe doesn’t have to work late. unfortunately at this juncture in my life, I cannot.

    • I can relate to that! Especially when pregnant. I was so exhausted for my entire first trimester, and then experienced insomnia through my third. It is tough on the body and you gotta take all the rest you can sneak in!
