Toddler Activity: Playing Doctor

Simon has been really into things having to do with doctors lately, and rather than spend money to buy a toy doctor’s kit, I made one up the other day with some various items from my bathroom cabinet. He loved this idea so much, and promptly got to work tending to his plush monster’s various boo boos and ailments.

The items I included were:

~A long ace bandage (with the little sharp metal hooks taken off)
~Several bandaids in an assortment of sizes
~A couple of cotton balls
~A few tongue depressors (which are actually craft sticks taken from our art supply bin)
~A little flashlight
~Some medical tape
~A medicine syringe that we use for dosing oral medicine to Simon
~Our digital forehead thermometer

Simon eventually figured out, all on his own, that he could use the syringe like a needle to give his monster shots. He also gave Jeramy and I several check-ups. This was played with for several days in a row, and requested as an activity often.

  1. Great idea! I still love that crazy monster (he’s just so photogenic)! 🙂

  2. This is the best idea ever. My daughter just spied this and asked me to make one for them. And I love your monster buddy! I’ll have to show you my pathetic attempt at making a stuffed animal from 4 years ago. You’ll snort.

  3. What a lovely little activity and looks like he is having such fun fixing monster! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog recently too!

  4. Such a better idea than buying a bunch of plastic junk! Going to start collecting…
