Remember, back in January, when my husband Jeramy threw me a surprise 30th birthday party? Well this month he turned the big three-oh too, and I was determined to get him back.
I know my husband well enough to know he would not want anything too fancy or fussy, just a gathering of friends, some good beer, and some good food. So I created a secret event page on facebook, invited everyone I could think of, and found a local pub with an event room. (My original plan was to have an outdoor barbecue, but we haven’t bought a house yet, so there is no backyard to have one in.)
The date I chose was a week after his actual birthday, partly out of necessity, but also to throw him off. The cover story was that some friends invited us out for dinner. When we arrived, our friend Alyssa met us in the parking lot, and told us her husband Tony had already gotten a table. So we followed her to the back of the restaurant. Jeramy told me later that he was wondering why we were headed to the back, since that was the event room, but he figured they must have been busy and using the extra space to seat people so he shrugged it off. That is, until we rounded the corner and everyone shouted “Surprise!!”.
Jeramy turned quite the shade of red. He hadn’t had any idea.
We then enjoyed an appetizer buffet, and a good time hanging out and laughing with all of our friends who made it out. Oh, and I shoved a cupcake in Jeramy’s face.
It was a fun time, and I was so happy to arrange something special for my awesome husband. I truly have an amazing guy and I hope he knows it.
P.S. The three cupcakes flavors, Boston Cream, Carrot Cake, and Beer and Pretzel, were made by my friend Bri, of Bourgeouise Bakery. The first two are Jeramy’s favorite cake flavors, the third because it seemed fun and fitting for the type of party we had. If you live in central Maine and need a cake, cupcakes, or other goodies, she does an awesome job. She made Simon’s 1st birthday cake, and my amazing walrus cake and paint palette cupcakes too.
