Motherhood, Art, Creative Play, and Finding Joy in Everyday Life

~I am reading three books at once right now, something I rarely do. I prefer to give just one book my undivided thoughts. Gretchen Rubin’s book is easy to read, and I am zipping right along. I was happily devouring Bill Bryson too until Simon pulled my bookmark out. I was so thrown off by having to find my place that I haven’t picked it back up yet. The Radical Homemakers book was a recommendation that I only just started yesterday. Which shall I read in bed tonight until I fall asleep?

~I also picked up the new Regina Spektor album that I have been raving about to you all about for weeks now. It was released yesterday, but I didn’t get to the store until today. I made it 5 minutes before they closed, and then went to get ice cream. The evening called for some treats.

~I am borrowing a new lens for my camera from my photographer parents, and having a lot of fun experimenting with it. I’ll get the hang of this whole manual business yet, I tell ya.

~Simon is overly emotional these days, not quite sure why. Must be just part of being two. He cries hysterically over the littlest things. This morning I asked what he wanted for breakfast. He told me he wanted cookies, and when I said “No Simon, cookies are not for breakfast.” (in a very gentle tone, mind you) he instantly burst into tears.

~Speaking of tears, he fell and hit the floor today, hard. Right on his cheekbone. Now he has a great big, purple and red bruise just in time for his 2-year physical tomorrow. I always worry when he has bruises or rashes, what the doctor will think.

~I put up a post in my new blog yesterday. Check it out if you like, and leave me a note over there.

  1. you have nothing to worry about at the doctors tomorrow. anyone who sees you two with Simon will only be thinking how much you love your son and what good parents you are 🙂

P.S. – i vote for Radical Homemakers so you can tell me what you think 🙂

  2. Sorry to hear about Simon’s fussiness. I wonder why he was acting up?

On another note, I sometimes read more than one book too, but find that I can’t read two fiction books or two non-fiction books, etc. I just read this awesome book called “Half the Sky” all about women in the developing world… super good.

    • Perhaps, because these are all nonfiction, I am able to do it. I agree with you one fiction, I don;t think I could do it. I would feel like one book would shake me out of the other one’s reality.

  3. Poor little guy! Hope his cheek is okay! Don’t worry…the doctor probably thinks he’s a normal little boy. 🙂 Believe me…after 4 kids and all the bruises (especially from Monkey Girl who trips over her own feet on a flat surface) they know it’s normal.

I’m reading Game of Thrones and lost my place and it took a good 15 minutes to find it. I feel your pain! 🙂

    • Yeah, Jeramy (my husband) was like that as a kid too. In and out of the ER on a regular basis. My mother-in-law told me that because his accidents were always so ridiculous sounding (trying to ski off the roof, getting hit by a piece of falling ice etc.) that the doctors would think she was lying.

Jeramy loves the Game of Thrones series and we own them. I just may have to give them a try.

The bookmark thing is like, one of my worst pet peeves ever!

  4. Hmmm, I am reading The Happiness Project too and a couple others too – but lacking time to finish any of them.

    Hope Simon is okay!
