Finding Color On A Grey Day

Today was yet another in a string of very grey days. It snowed a little, but not enough to stick, and the temperature was just chilly enough to keep Simon and I inside. Looking out the window at the way the overcast sky made everything duller, almost black and white, was a bit depressing.

So we dragged out the playdough and spent quite a long chunk of our day (way longer than any 22 month-old attention span would normally last) making a fantastic mess with it.

We made faces, that Simon called “Daddy“, which I found very amusing. I tried to give one some golden hair, but Simon said “No Daddy hair.” and peeled it all off. I suppose this reaction makes perfect sense, considering that Jeramy has an almost completely shaved head right now.

I love the way my always mechanically minded child tried to understand the inner workings of his fun factory. Someday, he might become an engineer or an inventor. Perhaps he will make kinetic sculptures?

One thing is for sure, there is zen to be found in the pulling and squishing of playdough. I found myself totally relaxed and completely unaware of the clock. I am glad we found a way to bring color into our day.

  1. Okay. His little beautiful eyelashes are killing me. Isn’t it fun to watch their faces puzzle out things?
