Coloring Hearts

Things that made me happy today:

~Folding laundry with Simon. I fold clothes and sort them into piles, while he spreads the unfolded clothes around the room, and takes apart my piles. I always put him in charge of gathering up all of the socks, and he obliges. I also let him put all of the bibs and burp cloths away in their designated drawer, which he does, causing them to all become unfolded as they tumble into the drawer. I am ok with his chaotic approach to laundry, since any little bit of help he gives is preparing him to learn responsibility.

He also grabbed the one pair of my underwear that happened to be in the basket, placed them on his head, and cracked himself up. I laughed too, which made him giggle even more. I have to wonder how he managed to choose the funniest thing possible from the pile to use as his hat.

~Simon is starting to come out of his shell little by little in our music class. Today the instructor pulled out a box full of rainbow-colored streamers and he stood up and waved them to the music. It amazes me how my chatty, loud, crazy little comedian at home becomes such a mute wallflower in group settings.

~Drinking a cup of new tea that I received s a birthday gift in the new mug that I received as a Christmas gift.

~Pizza Night. Due to the timing of the above mentioned music class, this is becoming a weekly routine, and I don’t mind at all.

~A gentle, all-day snowfall. So pretty.

~Pandora radio. It played me this song, which I had not listened to in years, yet I remembered every word. I love rediscovering musical favorites, though I always feel guilt for letting so much time pass between listens. It is as though I am betraying the artist or the song itself by not listening for so long.

~Coloring on paper hearts cut from a paper shopping bag with my son. Such a zen activity for a snowy day while the pizza is in the oven.

What is making you happy today?

  1. I love the way you described your Pandora experience. I totally relate to the feeling of “betrayal”! The emotional ties music creates is incredible.

  2. I’ve just started reading your blog and can relate to your comment above about your son turning into a wallflower in group situations. My 19 month old daughter is the most outgoing, chatty, loving little sweetheart at home but clams up and becomes non-responsive away from home. I don’t think friends believe me about her ‘home personality’. Thanks for the insightful blog.

  3. Underwear on the head – it is like universal! Love happy days! Thanks – needed it : )
