Christmas Card 2011

Today I am sharing with you a very late Christmas related post. I had been purposefully avoiding sharing on this blog until after the holiday, since I wanted to wait until all had been given out to their recipients.

Years ago I started putting my printmaking skills to use, carving and stamping a handmade christmas card. I have taken the occasional year off, such as when I was pregnant, but I have made many hand stamped cards over the years.

This year’s design was based on this image, which I came across on pinterest. I sketched my design with ebony pencil, traced it onto tracing paper, and then rubbed the back of the tracing paper to transfer it to my carving medium. I then use a Speedball carving tool and a block of easy carve material, and stamp onto cards I make by cutting paper to fit in envelopes when folded over.

I was pretty pleased with the result. My only regret was that I forgot to give Jeramy and I glasses!!! How I managed to forget such a major part of our looks I do not know, but by the time I remembered it was too far into carving.

I am already excited to plan next year’s card, and to create some designs for use in my etsy shop, when I reopen it later this year. (Much more on that to come!) Also, my darling husband bought me new printmaking tools, and they are just begging me for use right now, so some art will be made soon.
