Toddler Play: Fabric Scrap Bin

Babies and Little Toddlers love container play, and I am pretty sure I saw this particular idea kicking around the internet somewhere a while back.

While working on my current sewing project, I have generated a lot of fabric scraps. I decided to save the more sizeable ones aside for Simon to play with. This morning, I tossed them into an empty baby wipes case, and presented it to him. He though it was so cool. He had a great time emptying the container, arranging the scraps in different ways, and then realizing he could put the pieces back into the container through the hole in the lid. This is what he did, over and over again, while I made us both breakfast.

I plan to decorate this container at some point with him, and to continue adding more fabric scraps to it. Who knows what creative projects we will make with them in the future? For now, he is discovering them as tactile toys.

One of the best parts about things like this? It doesn’t cost any money, or run on batteries, and yet, it entertains him and engages his mind.
