Well, what a morning it has been. I think Maine has decided to get on with Winter. Simon and I woke this morning to a world of snow and wind. After he was dressed, I bundled him for the first time ever in his snowsuit, making him seem suddenly twice his normal size, and we headed outside.
I showed him how to make snowballs and stack them, and how to leave footprints in places where Daddy had already shoveled and a light dusting was forming a fresh cover. He loved watching the grown-up people shovel, and wanted to trek all around the house along the already half-buried paths that had been carved earlier in the morning. After a while, I could tell the wind and chill were getting the better of him and his still exposed cheeks, so we returned to the warmth inside and shed our extra layers.
My best friend, who lives in the same apartment building, provided our family with freshly baked coffee cake and poured a hot cup of black coffee for me. Simon chugged his milk and enjoyed the novelty of playing with another child’s toys.
