When I started this blog, I had no idea how many posts I would write about the weather. It seems like a mundane topic, but it really has been the cause of so much of the activities and moods of our lives around this house lately. It is all around us, setting the tone for our days. Weather has been a driving force for humankind since we began, dictating the rhythms we live by, and the preparations we make. So, despite the cliche of talking about the weather as idle chit-chat, it really is often worth mentioning and admiring.
As a diagnosed sufferer of Seasonal Affective Disorder, the weather can really impact my day-to-day life. The sun brings me terrific energy, while a gloomy day can make me lethargic and melancholy. Typically, this time of year is very hard for me, as the Maine autumn brings more darkness to the days, and often frost and chill. This year, however, has been a whole different story.
I am afraid I may be jinxing us all by writing this out, but how glorious this weather has been lately! Maine has set some new records. Into the eighties in October! Who would have guessed? I am truly thankful for these days, and I am trying to make the most of them by getting our bodies outside into the day whenever I can.
Note: As I prepare to publish this post, I am finding out rain is on the way. A week’s worth. Well, perhaps I did jinx us all? That won’t stop me from feeling overwhelming thankfulness for the beauty we have had.
